In this research, the main character of the film Raya and the last dragon (2021) is analyzed, thus exposing a case study on the representation of the woman character within animated cinema, as a particular example of evolution within the productions of Disney. For the theoretical review and methodology, a semiotic and formal filmic analysis of the protagonist is carried out following the pattern of Casseti and Di Chio (2007) as well as the stages and archetypes of the theory of the “writer's journey" (Vogler, 2002), applied in this case from feminist film theory and the gender perspective as “the heroine's journey". This concludes the narrative arc of the protagonist through her journey, an evolution that in the present case does not depend on a romantic relationship or a man, but rather the protagonist evolves and ends the journey thanks to her strength. as well as thanks to the help of their allies. With this analysis, the construction of a woman and princess of oriental culture is concluded through a structure that moves away from the colonialist and patriarchal vision and representation of women in the filmic tradition of animated cinema and particularly Disney.
