It ivas studied the differences bet wen the fruit growth patterns, in rela- tion to the abscission phenomenon, of cultivares that usually shed “Cerutti” or no them “Arauco". The results showed that both cultivars had a different pattern and phases of growth. Among other differences the fruit of “Cerutti” had a shorter period of growth than “Arauco” and achieved the senescent phase while it is attached to the tree. This fact was correlated and discussed as the main cause of that phenomenon.
