The celebration of the May Revolution centenary pointed out the opportunity to expose, as in other fields, the artistic development of the nation. Mendoza seems to be the more shameful exception for some eminent intellectuals due to the absence of works, creative and particularly for an evident indifference for spiritual activities. However it is in the previous and subsequent decades of the 1910 year when several initiatives gave place to the process of the artistic field formation. This paper is center in the history of two official institutions: the “Academy of Painting, drawing and modeling" and the “First fine arts salon". But this study tends to reconstruct a panorama which allows to become aware of other components and circumstances that preceded and went with that initiatives.
